The Village of Long Grove is governed by a president and six trustees, all of whom are elected at-large and serve four-year terms. The Village Board establishes policy and is responsible for the quality of life and the investments we have in our land and homes. The Village is also served by a Village Clerk, who is an elected official and also serves a four-year term. All elected officials, board and commission members volunteer their time and receive no monetary compensation.

The Village, in its effort to maintain an open space, low density and environmentally sound community, does not and could not provide the urban services of a city. Long Grove provides public road maintenance, snow plowing, police protection, planning and zoning protection and many other community programs. The Village of Long Grove, as one of the goals of the community from the time of incorporation in 1956 does not levy a real estate tax, nor charge special fees.

Maria Rodriguez is the Village President.  Village trustees are Angie Underwood, Joseph P. Barry, John Marshall, Karen Schmitt, Charlie Wachs and Joanne Weber. Karen Schultheis is the Village Clerk. The Village Board meets at the Village Hall on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m.

The Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Village Hall at 7 p.m.  A special meeting is held on the third Tuesday of each month if necessary. Members include Fred Phillips (chairman), Charles Cohn, Joseph Di Iorio, Michael A. Dvorak, Tobin Fraley, Jeff Kazmer, Wendy Parr, Sheldon Rubin and Terri Taylor (secretary).

The Architectural Commission meets on the third Monday of the month at the Village Hall at 7 p.m.  Members include Lynn Michaelson-Cohn (chair), Rodney Beadle, Terrence Connolly, Valerie Plunkett and Marietta Calas.

The Conservancy/Scenic Corridor Committee meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at the Village Hall at 7:30 p.m.  During the winter months, the committee only meets on the first Wednesday of the month.  Members include Lee Bassett, Robert Borg, Ellen Deasy, Warren Schmitt, Kelley Smith (chair) and Kathy Wiberg.

Summary Of Village Road Maintenance Issues (PDF)

Transportation Issues

Route 53
For nearly as long as there has been a Village of Long Grove, it has opposed the construction of an Illinois Route 53 northern extension. It has done so because such a project would do enormous damage to the environment, economy, and quality of life of our entire village without providing any real or lasting benefits.

The Illinois Route 53/120 Blue Ribbon Advisory Council has approved its final report recommending the Illinois Tollway move forward with an Illinois Route 53/120 Corridor project in Lake County. The group includes local elected officials, transportation and planning agencies and a diverse group of environmental, civic, business and labor representatives. The report will be presented to the Illinois Tollway Board of Directors in June.

Co-chaired by David Stolman, Lake County Board Chair, and George Ranney, President and CEO of Metropolis Strategies, the Advisory Council’s workhas focused on answering three primary questions: Is there consensus to move forward? What are the scope, configuration and design elements of a new roadway? And, how should the project be financed?
